Do you have to be a homeowner? Could a tenant purchase this if he wished?

Posted by Rick

The device can be fitted into a rented home but you would need permission from the landlord. This device can be easily removed by an electrician and taken with you if you decide to move home.

I live in a grade 2 listed building. Does the installation include anything being fixed outside or any alterations at all being made? If so it could be a problem.

Posted by Rick

The device fits between your meter and your consumer unit and should be fitted internally, not in a meter box outside. This should not affect any grade 2 listed building regulations.

How do you get one of these?

Posted by Rick

The BlueGreen Power Saver is suitable for most homes, not all. That’s why we offer an initial call with you, followed by an in-house suitability survey. You can request your Short Informal Call here…

Which appliances will this work with?

Posted by Rick

The BlueGreen Power Saver saves money with most, but not all, appliances. Thermostatically controlled resistive loads use less power at reduced voltage but operate for longer meaning savings are zero. Such appliances last longer when operated at lower voltage. Switch mode power supplies (SMPS) are common in many electronic products and savings here are low, perhaps 1% to 5% for a 10% reduction in voltage. However these devices are generally relatively small loads such as entertainment systems, phone chargers and IT equipment. The big savings come in refrigeration, motors and pumps. Not only are savings often over 10% but these appliances enjoy significantly longer life. Tests have shown that a typical home will see overall electrical energy reduction of between 6 and 12%.

How does the BlueGreen device work?

Posted by Rick

The device regulates the voltage in the home to a steady value, typically 220V. The UK average supply is 245V and most appliances use less energy at the lower voltage. All appliances must be CE-marked and this means they will operate normally at the lower voltage. With a BlueGreen installed, your electricity bill will be between 6 and 12% lower and your appliances and light bulbs will last longer.

a

What is the average payback time?

Posted by Rick

Between 3-5 years depending on the size of your bill, the level of supplied voltage and the types of appliances you have. We offer a no obligation in-house suitability survey before any installation. We can give a better indication after a short telephone conversation with you. This is followed up (if we both agree) with the suitability survey. Request your Short Informal Call here…

a

What happens if you overload the device?

Posted by Rick

The BlueGreen will regulate a constant load of up to 5kW, and a load of up to 8kW for a limited period. If overloaded for extended periods, the device will enter bypass mode. You won’t lose power to the property but your appliances will receive the unregulated supply voltage until the load has reduced. In most cases the BlueGreen will progressively adjust  the load voltage when changing operating mode.

a

Will we save money on heating devices such as an electric shower, underfloor heating or kettle if we fit a BlueGreen power saver?

Posted by Rick

There will be no savings on thermostatically controlled devices. At lower voltages they take marginally longer to get to temperature. But once at temperature their thermostats ensure that cooking times etc remain unaffected. These devices typically count for a quarter of a home’s electrical consumption.
